Education and Research(doctor)

Description of students

Students in the doctor course work from the "broad perspectives, insights and practical skills in the development of new forms of health, medicine and welfare to serve society" and "advanced, scientific management skills throughout the entire spectrum from disease to health" learned in the master course. From that foundation, they master higher levels of professional knowledge and research capacity and develop into people capable of playing a leading role in health, medicine and welfare.

The expectation is that upon completion of the doctor course, students will go on not only to be leading researchers and educators but also to play leading roles at health care, medical and welfare institutions, health-related businesses, and sports-related businesses.

This makes it necessary to develop and extend the skills acquired in the master course. For example, students must develop the analytical skills to identify problems and find solutions to complex situations, and the leadership to bring together researchers and practitioners from a wide variety of backgrounds in their solution. The approach is multifaceted and interdisciplinary. In addition to ordinary research and dissertation guidance, students are expected to participate in research projects, propose new themes, and gain experiences in research and development management. This approach enables them to achieve practical, creative health management results.

Below are the highlights of the training provided in each Course.

Course for Nursing

The goal in the Course for Nursing is to train people who are able to develop and create new forms of nursing care based on broad perspectives and insights. Students work in an interdisciplinary educational environment to develop their skills as practitioners, researchers, and educators in various areas of nursing science.

As healthcare advances and living environments become more complex and diverse, there is a strong demand for the development and practice of nursing care that is based on richer, more flexible concepts and scientific rationale to address the wide range of health issues that face people, promote healthier lifestyles, prevent disease, and improve health and QOL.

The doctor course trains researchers and educators with more advanced research capacities and academic insights who are able to meet these needs, collaborate with people in a wide range of specialties to improve health, and become advanced practitioners with strong research skills.

Course for Health Care Management

In the Course for Health Care Management, education and research focuses on the development of research, planning and implementation skills for the efficient provision of quality services at health care, medical and welfare facilities and in relevant businesses, and for the coordination and integration of services based on the needs of the individual. However, there are many issues to be addressed in the environment surrounding "health management." Internally, they include respect for the will of the user, quality of care, application of IT, and other increasingly advanced and complex management and administrative issues; externally, they include nursing care insurance, health care system reforms, new entrants from areas beyond medicine and welfare, and increasing competition among facilities.

The doctor course addresses the need for solutions to health management issues by training advanced researchers and educators and also developing practitioners with the expertise required to design business models based on objective metrics, and plan and execute business improvements.

Course for Sports Management

The advent of the aging society and changes in the social environment have increased awareness of health and leisure time. The Course for Sports Management seeks to improve health by providing students with the knowledge of sports medicine and health behavioral science necessary to maintain and improve the health of individuals and groups, management approaches for health and sports businesses, and multifaceted approaches to address the needs of the aging society. Knowledge and understanding in these areas is integrated into education and research that develops the research, planning and practical skills necessary to manage health and sports-related institutions and businesses.

The environment surrounding sports management is becoming more complex due to rapid changes in the social structure, the increase and interrelation of known and latent needs, the internationalization of sports business, and the wider range of stakeholders. In this Course, we train researchers, educators and advanced practitioners able to provide the leadership necessary to address these issues.

The goal of the doctor course is to develop advanced researchers, educators and experts in health management by deepening and integrating what has been learned in the master course in the three Courses for Nursing Science, Health Management and Sports Management, and creating new areas in health management.
